A Proud Moment

I have some pretty exciting news to share!  Several weeks ago I entered photos in the Shoot & Share Photo Contest.  I've made a commitment to put myself out there and enter my work into photo contests to be published or featured.  This isn't something that I've done before this year and it's not something that comes natural to me.  I had no anticipation of winning anything but I did it anyways.   This is a HUGE competition with photographers from 149 different countries and 225,000 entries.  On Wednesday, I found out that they had sent finalists emails on Monday.  I didn't recall receiving an email but I'm the worst about skimming and missing things.  I quickly did a search and there it was!!

I didn't know exactly what being a Finalist meant and I was seriously in disbelief.  After a little research, I found out that being a Finalist meant one of my photos was in the top 3.5% of all photos entered.  This handy little graphic shows the process it took to get to the Finalist round.

So freaking cool!  I was so excited!  But it gets better.  :)  They announced the 11th - 20th place winners for each category and as I scrolled through the images I found my photo!!  My photo of Amanda, a KBP senior rep, in her catcher uniform and surrounded by fog placed 11th in the Senior category!

Disbelief hit again and I had to check and recheck to make sure I was understanding this correctly.  11th  place out of 14,803 in the Senior category! http://shootandshare.com/photo/2016/189859/  Eeek!!! I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around it.   They are still in the process of announcing winners and should be completed by the end of the month.  At that time, I believe I'll be able to see how each of my photos placed.  (And which ones I entered because I honestly can't even remember!)

It's so rewarding to have received this recognition and feels wonderful to see my hard work and commitment payoff.  And the things is, this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't pushed myself out of my comfort zone. So the lesson of the day?  Don't sit around wishing, hoping, dreaming.  Get out there and act because when you do great things can happen!

********************  UPDATE  03/27/2016  ********************

All of the results from the image competition have been released and I was able to see how my other images did.  I entered 17 photos in all.  In addition to the 11th place photo above, I had three other photos that placed in the top 30% in their category.  Pretty cool!  Below are the top 30% finisher photos.
